Fjällräven Greenland Wax
With Fjällräven's environmentally friendly Greenland Wax, you can easily customize your gear’s water resistance for various weather conditions. For a tighter water-resistant garment that withstands rain and strong winds, warm the Greenland Wax with a hairdryer or an iron. In warmer weather, you can wash off the wax.
Greenland wax contains only paraffin and beeswax, free from any chemical additives. This makes Greenland Wax a more eco-friendly alternative to chemical-based treatments. Paraffin is oil-based and not harmful during use, as it does not cause skin irritation. Instead, it has a skin-softening effect and helps maintain the skin's moisture and flexibility. Beeswax is entirely natural, sourced from beehives and a byproduct of honey production.
Extend the life of your Kånken backpack
The importer does not recommend using treatment wax on the Vinylon F fabric from which Kånken backpacks are made. The only "correct" method is to clean the backpack with lukewarm water and a soft brush. However, this does not always yield the desired outcome. Therefore, we tested how the fabric, predominantly made from natural materials, reacts when a thin layer of paraffin and beeswax is applied. The 20-year-old Kånken backpack in the picture experienced a clear transformation during our treatment.
This is how we did it:
1. Start by wiping off any dirt from the backpack before applying the wax.
2. Apply a thin, even layer of wax to the fabric area by area, rubbing in both vertical and horizontal directions.
3. Gently heat the waxed area with a hairdryer or low heat in a sauna.
Note! Do not use an iron on your Kånken backpack.
We believe that the wax is suitable for use, provided it is applied properly according to the instructions, even for caring for Kånken backpacks.
However, we also want to highlight the importer's stance on the matter. Each person can decide whether they wish to use wax as part of their backpack care routine.
Immunizing G-1000 garments
1. Take a piece of Greenland wax in hand and rub a thin, even layer onto the fabric. Rub a bit more wax onto shoulders, knees, and other areas prone to wear and tear. Ensure there is enough wax.
2. Melt the wax into the fibers using a hairdryer or an old iron (remember to wipe the iron before using it on other clothes). When on a mountain journey, you can hold the garment a few centimeters above a steady, strong flame. Slowly move the garment closer to the heat source until you see the wax melting. Be careful not to burn the garment; keep your arm or hand away from the fabric. Move the garment back and forth over the flame until the wax is completely absorbed into the fabric.
