Fjällräven Greenland Wax
With Fjällräven's eco-friendly Greenland Wax, you can easily customize your clothing's waterproofing to suit various weather conditions. If you desire a more waterproof garment that withstands rain and strong winds, heat the Greenland Wax with a hairdryer or an iron. In warm weather, you can wash the wax away. The wax block measures approximately 80mm x 60mm x 25mm.
The Greenland Wax contains only paraffin and beeswax – it has no chemical additives. This makes Greenland Wax a more environmentally friendly option compared to chemical-based waterproofing products. Paraffin is oil-based; it’s safe for use and does not cause skin irritation – instead, it has a skin-softening effect and helps the skin retain moisture and elasticity. Beeswax is completely natural – it comes from bee hives and is a byproduct of honey production.
Extend the lifespan of your Kånken backpack
The distributor does not recommend using care wax on the Vinylon F fabric from which Kånken backpacks are made. The only "proper" way to clean the backpack is with lukewarm water and a soft brush. However, in all cases, this may not achieve the desired results. Therefore, we tested how the primarily natural material fabric reacts when a thin layer of paraffin and beeswax is applied. The picture shows a well-loved Kånken backpack that is over 20 years old experiencing significant transformation with our treatment.
This is how we did it:
1. Start by wiping away dirt from the backpack before applying the wax.
2. Apply a thin, even layer of wax area by area, scrubbing both vertically and horizontally.
3. Gently heat the waxed area, for example, with a hairdryer or in a mild heat sauna.
Note! Do not use an iron on your Kånken backpack.
We believe that when used correctly according to instructions, the wax is also suitable for the maintenance of Kånken backpacks.
However, we also want to highlight the distributor's stance on the matter. Each person can decide for themselves whether to use wax as part of their backpack's care.

Waterproofing G-1000 garments
1. Take the Greenland wax block in hand and rub a thin, even layer onto the fabric. Rub in a bit more wax on the shoulders, knees, and other abrasion-prone areas. Ensure there is enough wax.
2. Melt the wax into the fibers using a hairdryer or an old iron (remember to clean the iron before using it on other garments). While on a mountain trip, you can hold the garment a few centimeters above a steady, strong flame. Slowly move the garment closer to the heat source until you see the wax melting. Be careful not to burn the garment, and do not hold your arm or hand directly on the fabric. Bring the garment over the flame and move it back and forth until the wax has melted into the fabric.
