Guideline Scandi Fly Reel
Two and a half years of research and development laid the groundwork for this exceptional fly reel. The flagship of Guideline's new reel series is optimized to offer models suitable for all essential line classes, designed to meet the needs of today's salmon and sea trout anglers. The modern Scandinavian design language is pushed even further in the Scandi series with more "organic" softer shapes. Unmatched 3D CNC machining combined with a subtle double-anodizing finish enhances elegance.
Strategic Weight Minimization
The high standard of manufacturing processes has significantly increased with the Scandi series, which is why Guideline now offers a new level of maximum drag power. The narrow, deeper, wide-frame spool with vertical walls accommodates a wide range of thicker profile shooting heads and prevents backing line from getting tangled during intense fighting battles. Strategic weight minimization results in precisely defined lighter reel weights that balance perfectly with modern SH-, Switch-, and DH-rods.
High Torque Resistant Titanium Drag System
The drag systems combine titanium plates and carbon fiber friction disks to achieve maximum strength and durability. The 720-degree adjustment on the drag allows for extremely precise pressure settings, ensuring the drag is at just the right tightness when battling the fish. The fish should not be over-pressured to avoid the hook dislodging from the jaw. The line tension often increases excessively at the moment of netting when the rod is upright. When the fish makes a run in this moment, the line tightens, with the rod in an unfavorable position if the drag is too tight. On the other hand, the rod must have enough bend to force the fish to work. If the fish can just hang peacefully in the current, the battle will never end. In such a long battle, the fish tires the most, which can be fatal when the water is at its warmest. To ensure the reel withstands the most extreme stresses, it features a triple-stabilized frame that prevents the reel from failing both axially and radially. The reel's bearings ensure that the spool and frame fit together as snugly as a glove. Moreover, the spool does not wobble or touch the reel frame. Twelve stainless steel springs combined with titanium drag disks and carbon fiber friction disks allow for a smoother and more durable protected drag system capable of functioning under greater loads. It's worth mentioning that the drag knob of the reel is exceptional compared to competitors on the market. The knob is extremely easy to grip, even with the coldest, wettest, and most trembling fingers from excitement.
Which Model Should I Choose?
You can find the size chart at the end of the product images! Choose model #11+ as a counterbalance for the heaviest two-handed rods between 15-16 feet. The reel balances them well and can accommodate #11/12 lines. Model #911 pairs perfectly with a 9-weight rod, but you can also use it as a line holder for an 8- and 10-weight rod. Model #79 is best suited as a companion for an 8-weight rod, but you can pair it with 7- and 9-weight rods as well. Model #68 is an excellent companion for 6-8 weight switch rods. To avoid future headaches regarding line capacity, details regarding suitable backing, running, and shooting heads can be found on the reel foot's free surface. Every beauty in this series is delivered in a stylishly embellished, soft, and durable neoprene pouch.
