Headway Belly
Scientific Anglers set out to create a new line system that enhances two-handed casting. To better understand the needs of Scandinavian salmon anglers, SA initiated the project by interviewing Nordic fly fishing retailers, whose staff had a deep understanding of the features customers seek in gear. Through these interviews, the Scientific Anglers team gained a comprehensive understanding of the shortcomings in existing line series and how they could be improved and optimized. With passion, the SA team developed prototypes that were tested and refined alongside experienced Norwegian salmon anglers and casters, although there are also seasoned anglers from our area in Rauma. Scientific anglers, as we at Sissos refer to them, take pride in stating that the Headway line and tip series are the most thoroughly tested and fine-tuned in SA's history. The lines and tips are suitable for both novice casters and seasoned salmon anglers, regardless of whether they are using modern salmon rods.
Headway Bellies are designed to be used with tips. Without a tip, the line does not perform as intended. Tapered tips ensure that both small and large flies straighten out nicely after the cast, preventing tangles in the line. Tips from the same product family also make an excellent choice as extensions for other shooting head lines! There are three types of Bellies: floating, intermediate, and S3 (sinking at 3 inches per second). The lengths of the tips vary between 9 – 18 feet, and there are six sinking options available.
The weighting towards the head makes the belly a fast loading option for the rod, allowing for casting in tight spaces while brushing against the undergrowth. The head is dyed orange for easy visibility. This way, making a new cast quickly becomes simple as you know which part of the line should be near the rod tip. The junction between the belly and the tip is seamless, creating a smooth casting experience. The textured coating distinguishes Headway from traditional lines, facilitating line retrieval from the water. The line ID is printed directly on the line, so you won't forget which lines are packed in your bag.
