Headway Belly
Scientific Anglers set out to create a new type of line system for two-handed casting. To gain a better understanding of the needs of Scandinavian salmon anglers, the American line manufacturer initiated the project by interviewing Nordic fly fishing retailers, whose staff had a solid grasp of the features desired by customers in their gear. Through these interviews, the scientific anglers gained crucial insight into the shortcomings of existing line series on the market and how they could be developed and optimized. With passion, the SA team crafted prototypes bursting with fervor, which were rigorously tested and refined with experienced Norwegian salmon anglers and fly casters, even though there were experienced casters from our own Rauma as well. Scientific anglers, as we proudly refer to ourselves at Sissos, can boast about the Headway line and tip series being the most thoroughly tested and refined in Scientific Anglers' history. The lines and tips are suitable for beginners as well as more seasoned salmon hunters, regardless of the modern salmon rod in use.
Headway Bellys are designed to be used with tips. Without a tip, the line does not perform as intended. The tapered tips nicely straighten both small and large flies at the end of the cast without causing tangles. The tips in the same product line are also a great choice as extensions for other shooting head lines! There are three different types of Bellys: floating, intermediate (slow sinking), and S3 (sinking 3 inches per second). The tip lengths vary from 9 to 18 feet, and there are six sinking rates available.
The weight-forward design makes the belly a quick load for the rod, enabling easy casting in confined spaces, even when brush is snagging at your neck. The belly is colored orange for easy visibility. This way, a new cast can be made quickly, knowing which part of the line should be close to the rod tip. The joint between the belly and tip is seamless, creating a harmonious casting experience. The textured coating distinguishes Headway from traditional lines, making it easier to lift the line out of the water. The line ID is printed directly on the line, so you won't forget which lines you have in your pack.
