The Kantamus, or "human load carriage," is a versatile and customizable backpack model designed for a variety of needs. Its scalability and compressibility enable the backpack to adapt to different carrying requirements and situations. The internal aluminum frame provides robustness and weight distribution for carrying heavy loads.

The main compartment has a volume of approximately 40 liters, with an additional 8 liters in the lid. The Kantamus 40L is well-suited for carrying camping gear, change of clothes, food, and water for a few days' trips. Ample external attachment points allow for the addition of various side pouches and accessories based on user needs.

Main Compartment
The main compartment opens from the top with a roll closure and also features a vertical side zipper on the right side. Inside is a hydration reservoir compartment, equipped with two attachment loops and one hydration bladder securing strap positioned above it. Each side of the backpack at the top has a hydration hose port.

The left side zipper leads to a large flat pocket on the front wall of the pack, suitable for e.g., tent fabrics and other flat-lying gear.

There are numerous PALS webbing arrays on the sides and front for attaching additional pouches and gear. The bottom features two PALS webbing rows for securing gear with detachable straps or elastic cords.

Two side compression straps with SR buckles on each side allow for tightening the backpack as well as securing additional gear and long tools to the exterior of the pack. You can also securely attach the Hatka 12L daypack, equipped with appropriate buckles.

Gently pleated side pockets allow for carrying long tools and gear on the sides of the pack. These are rather flat and low, and are not designed for carrying water bottles; for that, we recommend attaching a general-purpose pocket to the hip belt.

Floating Lid
The lid features one large main pocket with a volume of approximately 8 liters, accessible via a zipper at the neck side. When filled, the lid "puffs up," and when empty, it compresses tightly. This compartment is ideal for holding rain gear or a break jacket. When the lid is tightened, it compresses itself tightly, preventing internal shifting. The top of the lid has rubber straps for securing lighter gear. The underside of the lid has two PALS webbing rows for securing items like a sleeping pad.

On the front section of the lid is a small zippered pocket for small items, containing a loop with a D-ring.

Pro-tip: The lid can also be detached and swapped with, for example, our Askare waist pouch or Hatka 12L daypack, when equipped with appropriate buckles (buckles are not included with the backpack). This allows you to customize your Kantamus into a modular, quickly detachable carrying system with a day/gear pouch.

Carrying System
The internal aluminum frame provides stability and good weight transfer to the waist when carrying heavier loads. The back is padded with thick high-density foam, which is secured in a Velcro-closed compartment. The pad can be removed for use as a sitting pad, and the compartment can be used to pack gear, for example, tent fabric or a rain cloak.

Padded shoulder straps attach to sturdy metal buckle rings, allowing for some rotation. The upper tightening straps can be threaded through two webbing loops, enabling the adjustment of their separation from the shoulder straps according to user preferences. The chest strap is removable and can be repositioned up or down on the shoulder straps as needed.

The hip belt consists of two 50mm webbing straps sewn to the backpack, featuring PALS webbing. Other parts of the hip belt (three pads and front closure straps with buckles) attach by threading them onto the webbing. Therefore, all components of the hip belt can be easily replaced if necessary without sewing work or special tools. The buckle on the belt is an extremely user-friendly and reliable Berg buckle.

Durable and Maintainable
The main compartment of the backpack is made from 1000D Cordura for high abrasion resistance, while details such as the opening and back panel are made from lighter and somewhat less coarse 500D Cordura. Zippers are protected with dual pulls on each zipper for reliability in case one fails.

The buckles, lid, shoulder straps, and hip belt components of the backpack can be easily replaced without sewing if they become damaged during use, allowing for easy repairs while using the backpack.
