The Savotta Jääkäri is an upgraded model of the original Rajapartioreppu designed for the Border Guard. The original Rajapartioreppu is a classic from 1989 and is still in active use by both border guards and many hunters and trekkers. Over the years, we have gathered user experiences, feedback, and suggestions into our product development archives. Utilizing this valuable information, we have transformed the Rajapartioreppu into a modern, exceptionally durable, and ergonomic backpack: the Jääkäri!
The Jääkäri is not just a basic backpack, but a tool engineered for demanding users, ensuring reliability even in tough conditions. The original Rajapartioreppu has received much praise for its rigid structure, leading us to keep its support frame unchanged. Instead, we made extensive modifications to the pack bag and carrying system, making the Jääkäri almost unrecognizable compared to its predecessor.
The numerous details and comprehensive MOLLE webbing of the Jääkäri make this backpack truly modular and versatile. Its narrow shape allows for excellent performance in skiing and hiking through challenging terrains, enabling the user to operate with free hands. Thanks to its robust internal aluminum frame and newly designed shoulder straps and waist belt, the Jääkäri is exceptionally comfortable to carry. The frame keeps the Jääkäri well-aligned and distributes weight anatomically to the hips, ensuring that even heavy loads do not strain the back and shoulders. The compression straps on the pack bag also allow for securing partial loads tightly, preventing any shifting.
Backpack Organization
The Jääkäri's pack bag is designed to be narrow yet spacious enough for essentials needed on medium-length hikes. The top opening is secured with a roll-top technique that allows for overpacking while providing excellent water resistance. The height of the Jääkäri can be adjusted between 60cm to 80cm, allowing for flexible size adjustment as per need. The roll-top is locked with a 25mm quick-release buckle and is covered with a flap that fastens with straps. The flap is attached on both sides with adjustable straps, making it easy to overpack and protect the contents. The attractive 'hat' design adds a distinctive look to the Jääkäri. The straps are long enough to provide ample space for additional gear, such as a sleeping bag, beneath the flap. The inside of the flap has a very spacious zippered pocket for valuables (dimensions: 26 x 30 cm). The Jääkäri's hat includes a Velcro patch area (size: 5x13cm) for name tags, patches, or any tag of the user’s choice.
PALS Webbing System
No military-style backpack would be complete without the modularity of PALS webbing, commonly known as MOLLE. By employing this technology, the Jääkäri offers an exceptionally modular system. MOLLE webbing is found on the front, sides, flap, and even on the shoulder straps and waist belt. With MOLLE, you can attach nearly any PALS-compatible pouch wherever on the Jääkäri you wish. This allows for the backpack to be expanded into a multifunctional carry-all that meets even the demands of top professionals. In addition to the modular attachment options, the MOLLE webbing reinforces and stabilizes the pack. Each MOLLE loop on the Jääkäri can withstand over 100 kg of pull.
Additional Attachment Points
Long attachment straps run from above the lower pocket of the Jääkäri and ascend along the front to the upper flap's 25mm quick-release buckles. Similar straps also run beneath the bottom of the Jääkäri, rising to the quick-release buckles above the lower pocket. If needed, a 25mm strap can smoothly glide along the MOLLE webbing and can be lifted to the surface from any point desired. This allows for securely strapping items to the front of the pack without any excess loose straps. The underneath straps also help maintain the Jääkäri's structure under heavy loads and enable carrying equipment securely attached to the base, such as rolled-up sleeping pads.
Carying System
Special attention has been given to the carrying system of the Jääkäri. Its support frame is identical to that of the Rajapartioreppu, which has been in rigorous use by the Finnish Border Guard for over 25 years. This DUR aluminum tube construction, ergonomically designed, has not yet found any equivalent. Some things just stay strong through all times.
The carrying system is designed to perform exceptionally in demanding conditions. The ergonomically perfect shoulder straps and sturdy hip belt create a comprehensive system that excels in durability and comfort. The Jääkäri features an anatomical design with no external tubular frame, allowing movement even in tight spaces. This type of backpack is also excellent for world travelers due to its adaptability.
