The Savotta Rajajääkäri is an enhanced version of the Rajapartioreppu, originally designed for the Border Guard. The original Rajapartioreppu is a classic from 1989 and is still actively used by Border Guards as well as numerous outdoor enthusiasts and campers. Over the years, we have gathered user experiences, feedback, and wishes into our product development archives. Utilizing this valuable information, we have transformed the Rajapartioreppu into a modern, robust anatomical backpack: the Rajajääkäri!
The Rajajääkäri is not just an ordinary pack, but a tool designed for the demanding user that delivers performance even in the toughest situations. The original Rajapartioreppu received much praise for its sturdiness, which is why we retained its structural integrity. Instead, we made significant modifications to the bag and carrying system, making the Rajajääkäri almost unrecognizable from its ancestor.
The numerous details and extensive "MOLLE" webbing system of the Rajajääkäri make it an extraordinarily modular and versatile work tool. Its narrow shape provides excellent performance for skiing and hiking in difficult terrain, allowing free use of the hands. Thanks to its strong internal aluminum frame, along with completely redesigned shoulder straps and hip belt, the Rajajääkäri is remarkably stable to carry. The support frame keeps the Rajajääkäri in good posture and distributes the load anatomically onto the hips, preventing back and shoulder fatigue even under significant loads. The compression straps of the pack bag help to tighten and stabilize your load, minimizing excess movement.
Pack Organization
The bag of the Rajajääkäri is designed to be narrow yet spacious enough to accommodate essential gear for medium-length hikes. The opening of the bag is secured with a roll-top technique that allows for over-packing and offers exceptional water resistance. Thanks to the roll-top design, the height of the Rajajääkäri can be adjusted freely between 60 cm to 80 cm, providing a customizable capacity as needed. The roll-top opening is locked with a 25mm quick-release buckle. This opening is covered by a flap that closes with straps. The flap is secured on both sides with adjustable straps. This "floating" flap allows for easy over-packing while also protecting your load. The elegant "hat" design gives the Rajajääkäri a distinctive appearance reminiscent of a traditional backpack. The generous length of the straps allows for additional space under the flap for accessories like sleeping bags. Inside the flap, there's a spacious valuables pocket with a zipper (dimensions 26 x 30 cm). The hat of the Rajajääkäri features a Velcro patch area (size: 5x13cm) for a name tag, flag, or any tag of the user's choice.
PALS Webbing System
No military-style backpack is complete without the modularity provided by the PALS webbing system, also known as "MOLLE." By applying this technology, we developed the Rajajääkäri into an exceptionally modular unit. MOLLE can be found on the front, sides, flap, and even the shoulder straps and hip belt of the Rajajääkäri. With MOLLE, you can attach any PALS compatible pouch almost anywhere on the Rajajääkäri. Utilizing compatible pouches, the Rajajääkäri can be expanded into a multifunctional carry system that meets the needs of even top professionals. In addition to modular attachment options, the MOLLE webbing reinforces and supports the backpack. Each MOLLE loop on the Rajajääkäri can withstand over 100kg of pull force.
Other Attachment Points
Long attachment straps run from above the Rajajääkäri's lower pocket upwards to the upper flap's 25mm quick-release buckles. Similar straps also run underneath the Rajajääkäri and rise to quick-release points above the lower pocket. If necessary, the 25mm strap can easily navigate along the MOLLE webbing and be lifted to any desired point. This allows for the secure fastening of items to the front of the pack without excess dangling straps. The straps underneath help maintain the Rajajääkäri's shape under heavy loads and enable carrying items securely attached underneath, such as rolled sleeping pads.
Carrying System
The carrying system of the Rajajääkäri has received special attention. The support frame of the Rajajääkäri is exactly the same as that of the Rajapartioreppu, which has been in intense use by the Finnish Border Guard for over 25 years. This DUR aluminum-tube frame is ergonomically designed and unmatched in performance. Some things simply stand the test of time.
The carrying system is designed to endure extremely demanding conditions. The top ergonomic shoulder straps and sturdy lumbar padding create a combination that leads the industry in both durability and comfort. The Rajajääkäri is an anatomical pack that does not have an external frame, allowing for movement in tight spaces while using the pack. This type of backpack is also perfect for world travelers due to its adaptability.
