The Savotta Jääkäri Backpack is an enhanced version of the lightweight border patrol pack designed for the Border Guard. The design process has actively listened to real user experiences, crafting the best features into the Jääkäri. More than just a standard daypack, the Jääkäri's numerous details and comprehensive "molle" system make it a truly modular and versatile work tool. Its narrow shape ensures that the backpack does not get in the way even in tight spaces, making it excellent for skiing and hunting. In its size class, the Jääkäri Backpack is robust to carry. An internal support frame maintains the backpack's good posture. The compression straps on the main compartment also allow for secure adjustment, keeping the load compact and stable.

Backpack Organization
The Jääkäri's main compartment (dimensions approx. 52 x 25 x 17 cm) is designed to be slim yet spacious enough to hold all essential items for a day trip. The opening is secured with a drawstring, while a waterproof protective collar ensures its tight closure, even for overpacking. The opening is covered by a flap that fastens down with straps. The flap is adjustable on both sides, allowing for easy overpacking. The generous length of the straps provides ample space for additional gear beneath the flap, such as a sleeping bag. Inside the flap, there is also a zippered valuables pocket (dimensions approx. 25 x 25 cm).
Accessing the contents is quick via a full-length vertical zipper on the right side of the pack. The zipper features two pulls, allowing it to be opened from any desired point.
Against the back, a full-length pocket for the internal support frame accommodates additional flat items.
Inside the main compartment, there is a pocket (approx. 23 cm x 37 cm) for a hydration bladder or other separately stored items. This pocket can fit various devices, including a 13.3" laptop, as well as smaller pads and articles. The top of this pocket features an elastic band to prevent items from bouncing around.
On both sides of the pack, under the flap, there are openings for the hydration bladder hose or even a cable or antenna.
On the sides, the main compartment can be tightened securely with four adjustable straps, allowing for a compact load even when underfilled.
At the bottom sides, open pockets with elastic cord closures allow storage for small items or a tool handle or a water bottle, with the neck securely tied down with side straps.
These pockets also feature metal rings at the bottoms for draining water.
PALS Webbing System
The Jääkäri wouldn't be a true Jääkäri without the modularity provided by the PALS webbing system, commonly known as "MOLLE".
PALS / MOLLE is a fastening system used in military applications in nearly every country. This system was created to meet a need for absolute modularity and durability.
The Finnish-style MOLLE stands for Modular Lightweight Load-Carrying Equipment. PALS is short for Pouch Attachment Ladder System.
By applying this technology, the Jääkäri has been crafted into an exceptional modular unit. MOLLE attachment points are found on the front, sides, flap, and even on carrying straps and the hip belt. With compatible pouches, the Jääkäri can be expanded into a compact anatomical backpack.
In addition to the modular attachment possibilities, the MOLLE webbing reinforces and stabilizes the backpack. Each MOLLE loop on the Jääkäri can withstand over 100 kg of pull.
Other Attachment Points
The flap attachment straps are long and run the entire length of the front and bottom of the backpack. If needed, a 25 mm strap can easily slide along the MOLLE webbing and be lifted to the desired point, allowing gear to be securely tied to the front of the backpack without loose straps hanging.
The bottom of the backpack has four webbing guide loops through which straps can run, allowing for securing additional items to the base. This setup is perfect for carrying rolled sleeping pads.
On the front side of the Jääkäri, from the lower edge of the pocket, there are two attachment loops for transporting loose items. Properly sized loops can carry specially long equipment, ensuring the handle fits if necessary.
Behind the side adjustment straps, there is also the possibility to tighten portable items that wouldn't otherwise fit in the backpack. The adjustment straps are long enough to reach across to the opposite attachment point if necessary.
Carrying Comfort
Anatomically shaped, robust shoulder straps and a low-profile yet sturdy hip belt ensure ergonomic carrying. The hip belt’s central tightening is accomplished via a 25 mm ladder buckle on both sides of the waist. The backpack’s adjustment is made easier with finger loops sewn into the hip belt that allow the backpack to be tightened with a single inward motion. Sizing options are plentiful to accommodate users of different sizes. The upper tightening of the backpack is done with a breast strap equipped with a quick-release buckle.
The back is reinforced with a highly durable front plastic plate frame. This lightweight frame maintains the backpack's structure and comfort, even when loaded with heavier gear. If desired, the support frame can also be removed from the backpack. Additionally, a stiffer frame can be purchased for the Jääkäri, featuring two vertical aluminum rods secured to the front plate to provide extra rigidity. When equipped with additional framing, the Jääkäri transforms into a compact ergonomic backpack.
Generously sized and robust padded cushions against the back are rare for backpacks of this size and make the Jääkäri surprisingly comfortable for a smaller pack. The lumbar cushion can also be removed if desired, or the hip belt can be tucked behind it, out of the way.
Warranty
The backpack is made in Finland / Estonia. The product comes with a five-year warranty against material and manufacturing defects.
