The Savotta Jaeger is an improved model originally designed for the Finnish Border Guard's Border Patrol Backpack. The original Border Patrol Backpack is a classic from 1989 and continues to serve actively among border guards and numerous adventurers and hikers. Over the years, we have collected user experiences, feedback, and wishes for product development. Utilizing this valuable data, we have developed a modern, extremely durable anatomical pack from the Border Patrol Backpack: the Jaeger!
The Jaeger is not just a basic pack; it is specifically designed for demanding users, ensuring you have the right tool to depend on even in the toughest conditions. The original Border Patrol Backpack has received so much praise for its robustness that we chose not to alter its supportive structure. Instead, we revamped the pack bag and carrying system so significantly that the Jaeger is nearly unrecognizable from its ancestor.
The numerous details of the Jaeger and its extensive "MOLLE" webbing make this pack truly modular and versatile. Its narrow shape makes it ideal for skiing and trekking in challenging terrains where your arms need to move freely. With its sturdy internal aluminum frame, along with entirely redesigned shoulder straps and a hip belt, the Jaeger is exceptionally comfortable to carry. The supportive frame maintains the Jaeger’s posture and distributes the load anatomically onto your hips, relieving stress on your back and shoulders even under heavy loads. The compression straps on the pack bag also allow for a snug and secure fit when packed.
Pack Organization
The Jaeger’s pack bag is designed to be narrow yet spacious enough to hold the essential gear for mid-length hikes. The opening of the pack bag is secured with an ultra-waterproof roll-top closure, allowing for overpacking. Thanks to the roll-top design, the Jaeger’s height can be adjusted between 60cm and 80cm, allowing for a customizable volume. The roll-top opening locks with a 25mm quick-release buckle, and is covered by a flap that closes with straps. The flap is attached on both sides with adjustable straps. This "floating" flap enables easy overpacking while protecting the overpacked load. The attractive top also gives the Jaeger a distinctive look. The generous strap lengths provide ample room underneath the flap for additional gear, such as sleeping bags. Inside the flap, there is a spacious zippered valuables pocket (dimensions 26 x 30 cm). The Jaeger’s top features a Velcro patch area (size: 5x13cm) for a name tag, badge, or any tag of the user’s choice.
PALS Webbing System
No Jaeger would be complete without the modularity that the PALS webbing system, or "MOLLE", brings. Utilizing this technology, the Jaeger has been created as a top-notch modular system. MOLLE can be found on the front, sides, flap, and even on the shoulder straps and hip belt. With MOLLE, you can attach any PALS-compatible pouch almost anywhere on the Jaeger that you desire. With suitable pouches, the Jaeger can be freely expanded into a multifunctional carrying system that meets professional standards. In addition to the modular attachment options, the MOLLE webbing also reinforces and stabilizes the pack. Each MOLLE loop on the Jaeger can withstand over 100 kg of pull strength.
Additional Attachment Points
Long attachment straps run from above the lower pouch of the Jaeger and traverse up to the upper flap's 25mm quick-release buckles. Similar straps run beneath the Jaeger’s bottom and connect to quick-release buckles above the lower pouch. If necessary, a 25mm strap can easily navigate the MOLLE webbing and can be raised to surface level from any point desired. This facilitates securely tying down items to the front of the pack without extra loose straps. The straps under the bottom also help maintain the Jaeger’s posture under heavy loads, allowing items to be carried attached to the bottom as well. For example, rolled sleeping pads fit well for carrying at the bottom.
Carrying System
The Jaeger’s carrying system has received particular attention. The supportive frame of the Jaeger is identical to that used in the Border Patrol Backpack, which has been in rigorous service by the Finnish Border Guard for over 25 years. This DUR aluminum frame is ergonomically designed and has yet to find a match. Some things remain timelessly effective.
The carrying system is engineered for exceedingly demanding conditions. Top ergonomic shoulder straps and a sturdy lumbar pad form a whole that is world-class in durability and user comfort. The Jaeger is an anatomical pack without an external frame, allowing for movement in tight spaces. This type of pack is also perfect for world travelers due to its adaptability.

Note! The hip belt's usable length is always shorter than the adjustment length. Clothing and belt padding generally reduce the usable length by 10-15 cm. Usable length is measured around the user's hips while wearing all clothing, including added belt padding.
