The Savotta Jaeger backpack is an improved model originally designed for the Border Guard's Lightweight Border Patrol backpack. The design of the backpack has taken into account true user experiences, integrating the best concepts into the Jaeger. The Jaeger is more than just a standard daypack. With numerous features and a comprehensive MOLLE system, this pack serves as a truly modular and versatile tool. Its slim shape ensures it won't obstruct movement in tight spaces, making it ideal for skiing and hunting. In its size category, the Jaeger is robust and well-structured. An internal support frame keeps the Jaeger upright, while compression straps allow for a snug, noise-free package.
The Jaeger’s main compartment (approximately 52 x 25 x 17 cm) is designed to be narrow yet sufficiently spacious for carrying tools needed on day trips. The opening of the backpack is secured with a drawstring, and its tightness is reinforced by a waterproof protective collar, allowing for overpacking. The opening is covered by a flap that is secured with straps. The flap is adjustable on both sides, enabling easy overpacking. The straps are long enough to provide ample space for additional gear like a sleeping bag underneath. Inside the flap, there's also a spacious zippered valuables pocket (measurements approx. 25 x 25 cm).
The backpack can be accessed quickly via a full-height vertical zipper on the right side. The two zipper pulls allow for opening from a desired point.
Against the back, the main compartment has a full-back sized pocket for the frame. This pocket can also serve as an additional compartment for carrying flat items.
Within the main compartment, there is a pocket (approx. 23cm x 37cm) for a hydration bladder or for holding separate items. This pocket can accommodate a laptop up to 13.3" or smaller tablets and electronics. The pocket's opening features elastic to prevent contents from bouncing around inside the pack.
On both sides of the backpack, under the flap, there are outlets for hydration tube or cables.
The sides are equipped with four tightening straps that can secure the backpack even with a partial load.
At the bottom sides are open elastic pockets that can hold small accessories or a long tool, which can be securely fastened with the side tightening straps.
There are also metal rings at the bottom of these pockets to allow for drainage.
The Jaeger wouldn’t be a Jaeger without the modularity brought by the PALS (or “MOLLE”) webbing system.
PALS / MOLLE is a fastening system used by militaries in almost every country. This system was created out of necessity for absolute modularity and durability.
The easily pronounced MOLLE in Finnish stands for Modular Lightweight Load-carrying Equipment. PALS comes from Pouch Attachment Ladder System.
By applying this technology, the Jaeger backpack offers exceptional modularity. MOLLE can be found on the front, sides, flap, and even along the carry straps and hip belt. With suitable pouches, the Jaeger can be expanded into a compact ergonomic backpack.
In addition to offering modular attachment options, the MOLLE webbing also reinforces and stabilizes the backpack. Each MOLLE strap on the Jaeger can withstand over 100 kg of force.
The flap's attachment straps are long and run along the front and bottom of the backpack. The 25mm strap can smoothly navigate the MOLLE webbing and can be raised to any desired position. This allows for the secure attachment of cargo to the front of the backpack without extra loose straps. The base of the backpack features four strap guides through which straps can run, enabling gear to be tied down at the bottom. This is ideal for carrying rolled sleeping pads, among other things.
At the front of the Jaeger, near the bottom of the bag, are attachment loops (2 pieces) for carrying loose items. Ideally sized loops are perfect for carrying especially long equipment without the need for tying the handle down.
The side tightening straps also allow for securing items that wouldn’t otherwise fit in the backpack. The straps are long enough to reach from one side of the backpack over to the opposite attachment point.
Anatomically shaped robust shoulder straps and a low-profile yet sturdy hip belt contribute to an ergonomic carrying experience. The central adjustment on the hip belt is achieved with a 25mm ladder buckle on both sides. Finger loops sewn into the hip belt facilitate tightening the backpack with a single inward motion. Adjustability is tailored to accommodate users of varying sizes. The pack’s upper adjustment features a sternum strap with a quick-release buckle.
The back is reinforced with an exceptionally durable front plastic panel frame. This lightweight frame ensures the pack stays upright and comfortable even with heavier loads. If desired, the support frame can also be removed from the backpack. As an optional accessory, a sturdier frame can be purchased, featuring two vertical aluminum rods riveted to the front panel for additional rigidity. A Jaeger equipped with this additional frame transforms into a compact ergonomic backpack.
The generously sized padded cushions against the back are rare in backpacks of this size category, making the Jaeger surprisingly comfortable to carry for such a small pack. The cushion located at the lumbar region can also be detached if desired, or the hip belt can be tucked behind the cushion to keep it out of the way.
This backpack is made in Finland / Estonia. The product comes with a five-year warranty against material and manufacturing defects.
