Savotta Kantamus 40L - Black
The Kantamus, or "human load carried", is a versatile and adaptable backpack model designed for various needs. Its scalability and compressibility allow it to be tailored to diverse carrying requirements and situations. The internal aluminum tube frame provides stability and effective weight transfer for heavy loads.
The main compartment has a capacity of approximately 40 liters, with an additional 8 liters in the top compartment. The Kantamus 40L is ideal for carrying camping gear, spare clothing, food, and water for multi-day trips. Ample external attachment points accommodate different side pockets and accessories based on the user's needs.
Main Compartment
The main section of the backpack opens from the top with a roll closure and features a vertical side zipper on the right side. Inside, there is a water bladder compartment with two attachment loops above it and one connector for the hydration bladder. Both sides of the backpack have a hydration hose port at the top.
The left side zipper leads to a large flat pocket on the front wall of the backpack. This is perfect for items like tarps and other flat-pack gear.
There are ample PALS webbing systems on the sides and front for attaching additional pouches and equipment. The bottom features two rows of PALS webbing for securing items with loose straps or elastic cord.
Two side compression straps with SR buckles on each side allow for tightening the backpack and securing additional gear outside the pack, such as long tools. You can also attach a Hatka 12L daypack with proper buckles to these straps.
Gently pleated side pockets enable the carrying of long tools and gear along the sides of the backpack. These are quite flat and shallow, not intended for carrying water bottles; for that, we recommend attaching a general-purpose pouch to your hip belt.
Floating Flap
The flap features one large compartment with a capacity of about 8 liters, accessed via a zipper on the back side. When full, the flap "puffs up"; when empty, it compresses flat. This is suitable for items like rain gear or a pause jacket. When the flap is tightened, it naturally compresses to prevent sloshing of the contents. The top of the flap includes elastic webbing for securing lighter gear. The underside of the flap has two rows of PALS webbing for attaching sleeping pads, for example.
On the front of the flap, there is a small zippered pocket for small items, which includes a strap loop with a D-ring.
Pro-tip: The flap can also be detached and swapped with our Askare waist bag or Hatka 12L daypack, equipped with compatible buckles (buckles do not come with the backpack). This allows you to customize the Kantamus, making it a modular carrying system with a quickly detachable day/equipment pouch.
Carrying System
The internal aluminum tube frame adds stability and excellent weight transfer to the hips for heavier loads. The back padding is filled with thick and sturdy closed-cell foam that can be removed from its compartment to be used as a seat cushion, while the compartment can hold gear such as a tarp or rain poncho.
The padded shoulder straps attach to durable metal ring buckles, allowing for slight movement. The upper tightening straps can be threaded through two webbing loops, enabling adjustment of their separation from the shoulder straps based on the user's measurements and preferences. The sternum strap is detachable and can be adjusted up and down as needed.
The hip belt consists of two 50mm straps sewn to the backpack, featuring PALS webbing. Other components of the hip belt (three pads and the front buckle strap) attach by threading them on, making it easy to swap out parts without stitching or special tools if necessary. The buckle on the belt is an extremely user-friendly and reliable Berg buckle.
Durable and Maintainable
The main compartment of the backpack is made from 1000D Cordura for high abrasion resistance, while details like the opening and back are made from lighter and less coarse 500D Cordura. The zippers are protected, and each zipper feature two pulls for redundancy in case one happens to break.
The buckles, flap, shoulder straps, and hip belt components can be easily replaced without sewing should they become damaged during use, facilitating easy repairs while using the backpack.
