The Kantamus, or "human carrying load", is a versatile, adaptable backpack model suited for many needs. Its scalability and compressibility allow it to be tailored to various carrying requirements and situations. The internal aluminum frame offers support and weight distribution for transporting heavy loads.
The main compartment has a volume of about 40 liters, with an additional 8 liters in the lid. The Kantamus 40L is ideal for carrying camping gear, spare clothes, food, and water for several days of adventures. Abundant external attachment options enable the user to customize side pockets and accessories to their needs.
Main Compartment
The main compartment opens at the top with a roll closure, as well as from the right side with a vertical zipper. Inside, there is a hydration bladder compartment, with two attachment loops and one hydration bladder fixture above it. Each side of the backpack features an upper port for a hydration hose.
The left side zipper leads to a large flat pocket on the front wall of the backpack, perfect for tent fabric and other items that can be packed flat.
The sides and front are equipped with ample PALS webbing for attaching additional pockets and gear. The bottom includes two PALS webbing rows for securing gear with straps or bungee cords.
Two side compression straps with SR buckles allow for tightening the backpack and securing additional gear, such as long tools, to the exterior. You can also attach, for example, the Hatka 12L daypack, using the appropriate buckles.
Gently pleated side pockets enable the carrying of long tools and additional gear on the sides of the backpack. They are rather flat and shallow, not intended for carrying water bottles; for that purpose, we recommend attaching a general pocket to the hip belt.
Floating Lid
The lid features one large main pocket with a volume of about 8 liters, accessed from the back via a zipper. When filled, the lid "balloons", and when empty, it compresses tightly. Suitable for rain gear or a jacket for breaks. When the lid is tightened, it compresses itself tightly, preventing contents from shifting. The top of the lid has elastic bungee cords for securing lighter gear. The underside of the lid has two rows of PALS webbing for attaching, for example, a sleeping pad.
On the front of the lid, there is a small zippered pocket for small items, with a webbing loop and D-ring inside.
Pro-tip: The lid can be detached and swapped for our Askare belt pouch or Hatka 12L daypack, using suitable buckles (buckles are not included with the backpack). This allows you to customize your Kantamus into a modular system with a quick-release day/utility bag.
Carrying System
The internal aluminum frame provides support and good weight distribution for heavier loads. The back is padded with thick, solid closed-cell foam, which is placed in a compartment that can be closed with Velcro. The padding can be removed to be used as a seat cushion, and the compartment can hold gear like a tent fabric or rain poncho.
The padded shoulder straps connect to sturdy ring buckles, allowing for slight adjustment. The upper tightening straps can be threaded through two webbing loops, enabling adjustment of their separation point from the shoulder straps according to the user's dimensions and preferences. The chest strap is removable and can be adjusted up and down the shoulder straps as necessary.
The hip belt consists of two 50mm webbing straps attached to the backpack, featuring PALS webbing. Other components (three pads and front closure straps with buckles) attach through these webbing straps. Thus, all parts of the hip belt can be replaced as needed without sewing or special tools. The buckle is an extremely user-friendly and reliable Berg buckle.
Durable and Maintenable
The main body of the backpack is made from 1000D Cordura for high wear resistance, with details like the opening and back made from lighter, less coarse 500D Cordura. The zippers are protected, and each zipper features two pulls to ensure functionality even if one breaks.
The backpack's buckles, lid, shoulder straps, and hip belt components can easily be replaced without sewing in case of damage during use, allowing for simple repairs throughout the backpack's lifetime.
