The Hikmicro Thunder can function as a handheld thermal monocular or as a clip-on accessory attached to a rifle scope. It connects to the firearm via an adapter sold separately, which attaches to the objective lens of the rifle scope. The appropriate adapter is selected based on the outer diameter of the scope's objective lens.
When in clip-on mode, it utilizes the scope's reticle, ensuring that the point of aim usually remains unchanged. (However, zeroing must still be verified. Any corrections are made to the thermal camera, and adjustments to the rifle scope itself are unnecessary. The scope can be zeroed in on thermal targets such as chemically heated hand warmers or a can filled with hot water.)
With the ocular cap in place, the device can also be used as a thermal monocular. In this configuration, it’s particularly useful for tracking wounded game or in any scenario where detecting heat signatures is beneficial.
The device features an energy-saving mode, easily activated. While it takes a few seconds to boot up normally, a quick press of the on/off button activates the energy-saving mode, allowing instant wake-up. When the thermal camera is connected to a smartphone, you can enable standby mode directly from the thermal camera. You'll still see any movement on the phone's screen, and if needed, with a button press, the thermal scope is ready for use. When connected to a smartphone, it's also easy to take photos or videos that get saved directly to the phone.
The thermal camera comes with its own battery, which can be charged while in place or separately removed.
